Miele Washer Not Draining Properly
A washer that won’t drain leaves behind puddles that dampen more than just your spirits. How do you fix a washing machine that won’t drain? The drain filter may need cleaning to improve water flow. Use these troubleshooting tips when you find your Miele washer not draining properly.
Top 4 Reasons for a Miele Washer Not Draining
In some instances, a part failure causes a washing machine not to drain while, in others, the problem has a simple DIY fix. We’ve narrowed down the top 4 reasons for a Miele washer not draining to simplify your troubleshooting and find the right solution.
Kinked or Clogged Drain Hose
The drain hose carries used washer water out of the machine and into the sink drain or standpipe. If this hose is jostled or pushed too closely against the wall, it can become kinked, leaving your Miele washer not draining properly. While it’s possible to straighten any kinks gently, a damaged drain hose must be replaced.
If the hose is clogged, the washer won’t drain because the obstruction causes water to back up into the machine. To enable draining, the hose must be disconnected from the washer so the clog can be removed. If the clog is unreachable, the hose needs to be replaced.
Miele Drain Pump Filter is Clogged
The drain pump filter screens out debris and foreign objects, preventing them from clogging the drain pump. If the pump becomes clogged with debris, the washer won’t spin out all the water because it can’t drain through the blocked pump. Regular cleanings can prevent clogs that leave a Miele washing machine drain filter stuck and unable to drain water.
Follow these steps to clean a Miele washer drain pump filter:
- Replace the filter, twist it clockwise to secure and close the drain pump access panel.
- Open the drain pump access panel at the bottom of the washer.
- Place a shallow pan under the access flap to catch draining water.
- Slowly turn the drain filter cover counterclockwise. Don’t unscrew the filter all the way to better control the amount of water that spills out.
- Once the water is drained, remove the filter completely and rinse it under running water.
Obstruction in Drain Pump
If the drain pump filter is clogged, blockages are more likely to clog the drain pump. When this happens, the pump’s impellers won’t be able to draw water out of the tub, and you’ll find clothes still wet after wash cycle completes.
You can check the drain pump for obstructions by opening the pump access panel and removing the drain pump filter. Inspect the pump impellers at the rear of the filter compartment and remove any visible blockages.
Damaged Door Lock
A damaged door lock is a common part malfunction that results in a Miele washer not draining. The door lock secures the washer door once it’s closed, signaling the washer to begin a wash cycle. If the door lock is damaged or defective, it may not secure the door properly or signal the washer to start spinning and draining. When the door lock shows visible damage or fails multimeter testing with a lack of continuity, it requires replacement.
