LG Washing Machine Won’t turn on
You load your washer, close the lid, and press start. Nothing. Your LG top load washer won’t turn on. Even if you’re on top of basic washer maintenance, washers can break down from time to time. Luckily, there are problems you can check yourself before calling in the experts.
TOP 4 Reasons Your LG TOP Load Washer Won’t Turn ON
A washing machine that won’t start is a major inconvenience. To make troubleshooting easy, we made a list of the top four issues that cause a washer to not turn on:
Incoming Power Problem
The very first thing to check when your LG top load washer won’t turn on is the power supply. There are a few ways to check if power is getting to your washer.
Make sure any light switches that may control electrical outlets are on. Also, try resetting the circuit breaker. Do this by turning off the correct switch for 5 seconds and turning it back on.
You should also test the outlet with another electronic that you know works. If none of these steps show results, start troubleshooting issues with the unit itself.
Washer Needs Hard Reset
Sometimes appliances just need a little reboot. If your LG washing machine won’t start, try doing a hard reset on the unit.
To perform a reset, start by unplugging your washer. Then, press and hold the power button for 5 seconds. Do the same with the play button. Plug your washer back in and see if it turns on.
If the hard reset didn’t do the trick, there may be a bigger problem.
Washer Lid Switch Failure
A common reason why an LG top load washer won’t turn on is because of the washer lid switch. This switch is a safety feature that prevents the washer from cycling when the door isn’t closed.
If the lid switch is broken, then your washer won’t start – even if the door is closed. To see if it’s working correctly, listen for a click when you close the washer lid. If you don’t hear it, then the lid switch may be responsible for your LG top load washer not starting and needs to be replaced.
Washer Control Board Defective
Another thing to check on a top load washer not working is the control board. See if the display board is working. If it has power but not displaying anything, then it needs replacement.
Next, press each button to see if any of them work. If some buttons work, but others don’t, then the control board isn’t working right. Replacing the control board will fix the problem.
