Jenn-Air Dishwasher leaking

Jenn-Air Dishwasher Major Issues

Jenn-Air Dishwasher leaking

Jenn Air Dishwasher Water Inlet Valve

The water inlet valve opens to allow water to enter the dishwasher. If the water inlet valve is stuck open, the dishwasher will continue to fill with water until the dishwasher leaks or overflows. If the water inlet valve is at fault, replace it. Water inlet valves are not repairable—if the valve is defective, you must replace it.

Jenn Air Dishwasher Center Wash Arm Assembly

If the wash arm is cracked, it can allow a jet of water to spray toward the door seal, causing a leak. Remove the wash arm and inspect it for cracks. If the wash arm is cracked, replace it. Do not attempt to seal the crack with glue—the glue will break down in the dishwasher. If the wash arm is intact, make sure the screws in the wash arm support are tight. If the wash arm support is loose, water can spray out between the wash arm support and the lower pump housing, causing waves. These waves can cause water to leak out of the bottom of the door.

Jenn Air Dishwasher Lower Wash Arm Assembly

If the wash arm is cracked, it can force water to spray directly toward the lower part of the dishwasher door. The water can then be forced under the door and onto the floor, causing a leak.

Jenn Air Dishwasher Upper Wash Arm Assembly

If the upper wash arm is cracked, it can force water to spray directly toward the dishwasher door seal, causing a leak.

Jenn Air Dishwasher Door Seal

Look for tears, gaps or cuts in the seal that could cause a dishwasher door leak. To determine if the door seal is making good contact, try closing the dishwasher door on a dollar bill all the way around the door. If the dollar bill does not stick, there is a gap in the seal. If the door seal has any gaps or leaks, replace it. If the door seal is working properly but the dishwasher is still leaking, check the door hinges. If the hinges are bent, the door will not close properly, creating a gap between the door seal and the dishwasher. If the hinges are bent, replace them.

Jenn Air Dishwasher Detergent Dispenser

A dishwasher detergent dispenser releases detergent into the tank during the wash cycle. Some dispensers with a rotating cover, or a latch, have an O-ring or seal that can wear out and allow water to leak inbetween the door panels and onto the floor near the bottom of the door.

Jenn Air Dishwasher Door Gasket

Look for tears, gaps or cuts in the gasket that could cause a dishwasher door leak. To determine if the door gasket is making good contact, try closing the dishwasher door on a dollar bill all the way around the door. If the dollar bill does not stick, there is a gap in the gasket. If the door gasket has any gaps or leaks, replace it. If the door gasket is working properly but the dishwasher is still leaking, check the door hinges. If the hinges are bent, the door will not close properly, creating a gap between the door gasket and the dishwasher. If the hinges are bent, replace them.

Wrong type or incorrect amount of detergent

Make sure to use the proper dishwasher detergent. Use the proper amount of detergent for your water hardness; too much soap in soft water can cause oversudsing and leaking.

Jenn Air Dishwasher Drain Pump

A dishwasher drain pump assists in removing the water from the tank during the drain cycles by using an impeller to force or push the water through a drain hose to the garbage disposal or a sink drain pipe. If the drain pump is cracked or damaged, the dishwasher can leak water behind the lower panel beneath the dishwasher tank.

Jenn Air Dishwasher Drain Hose

A dishwasher leak behind the lower access panel could be caused by damaged drain hose. Confirm the hose is secured to the drain pump outlet port and check for any cracks or holes in the hose itself. Replace a damaged drain hose with a new one.

Jenn Air Dishwasher Sump

Most dishwashers have a large bowl, or sump, which collects the water that enters the pump. The sump is lined with a rubber seal that prevents water from leaking between the sump and the dishwasher tub. If the sump seal is worn out, the sump will leak water. If the sump seal is leaking water, replace it. In addition, on some dishwashers, a lock ring secures the sump to the bottom of the tub. If the lock ring is cracked or damaged, replace it.

Jenn Air Dishwasher Circulation Pump

A dishwasher circulation pump circulates the water through the spray arms to wash the dishware. If the pump is cracked or damaged, or a seal is worn out, the dishwasher can leak water behind the lower access panel.

Jenn Air Dishwasher Pump and Motor Assembly

A dishwasher pump and motor assembly circulates the water through the spray arms to wash the dishware. If the assembly is cracked or damaged, or a seal is worn out, the dishwasher can leak water behind the lower panel beneath the dishwasher tank.

Jenn Air Dishwasher Diverter Motor

A dishwasher’s diverter motor operates a diverter disc to redirect the water to the upper spray arm or arms. If the motor itself is damaged, it can potentially leak water behind the lower access panel. Inspect the motor housing for any cracks and replace if necessary.

Jenn-Air Dishwasher lights flashing or blinking

Jenn-Air Dishwasher Major Issues

Jenn-Air Dishwasher lights flashing or blinking

01 – Jenn Air Dishwasher Heating Element

The heating element heats up the water to operating temperature. If the water doesn’t reach the proper temperature after a set amount of time, a light on the control panel might start flashing. To determine if the heating element has burned out, use a multimeter to test it for continuity. If the heating element does not have continuity, replace it.

02 – Jenn Air Dishwasher Heating Element Assembly

The heating element assembly heats up the water to operating temperature. If the water doesn’t reach the correct temperature after a set amount of time, a light on the control panel might start flashing. To determine if the heating element assembly has burned out, use a multimeter to test the heating element for continuity.

03 – Jenn Air Dishwasher Water Inlet Valve

If the dishwasher lights are flashing or blinking, the cause could be a faulty water inlet valve. You can use a multimeter to test the valve’s solenoids for electrical continuity to help determine if the component is functioning properly or not.

04 – Jenn Air Dishwasher Door Latch

A dishwasher’s lights flashing or blinking could indicate a problem with a micro switch inside the door latch assembly. To determine if the micro switch is at fault, use a multimeter to test the switch for continuity. If the switch does not have continuity, replace it or the entire latch assembly.

05 – Jenn Air Dishwasher Control Board

The control board provides power to nearly every component of the dishwasher. It’s possible that the board has shorted and is causing the lights to flash or blink unexpectedly. Check the owner’s manual for possible fault codes as one of the components may have failed. If the control board is not sending power to one of the components, it’s likely the control board is at fault and will need to be replaced.

06 – Jenn Air Dishwasher Main Control Board

The main control board provides power to nearly every component of the dishwasher. It’s possible that the board has shorted and is causing the lights to flash or blink. Check the owner’s manual for possible fault codes as one of the components may have failed. If the control board is not sending power to one of the components, it’s likely the main control board is at fault and will need to be replaced.

07 – Check Fault Codes

If the dishwasher lights are flashing or blinking or there is a fault code in the display window, consult the wiring diagram, tech sheet, and/or user manual to find out more information about the error.

08 – Jenn Air Dishwasher User Control and Display Board

The user control and display board is the component that allows the user to choose a dishwasher’s wash and dry setting. If the control and display board is defective, it could be causing the lights to flash or blink unexpectedly. If the control panel buttons were working intermittently prior to the lights flashing, it’s likely the user control and display board is at fault and will need to be replaced.

09 – Jenn Air Dishwasher Drain Pump

The drain pump uses an impeller to force water through the drain hose. If the drain pump is not working, a light on the control panel might start flashing. To determine if the drain pump is defective, check the pump motor for continuity using a multimeter. If the motor does not have continuity, replace the drain pump. Drain pumps are not repairable—if the drain pump is defective, you must replace it.

10 – Jenn Air Dishwasher Touchpad and Control Panel

First, confirm that the display is working. If the display is working, try pressing the touchpad buttons. If some of the buttons don’t respond correctly, it is possible that the entire touchpad and control panel is at fault. (Some manufacturers sell the touchpad separately from the control panel. Other manufacturers require that you purchase the touchpad and control panel together. If you cannot replace the touchpad individually, replace the touchpad and control panel.)

11 – Jenn Air Dishwasher Touchpad

First, confirm that the display is working. If the display is still working, try pressing some of the touchpad buttons. If some of the buttons respond correctly but others don’t, it is likely that the touchpad is at fault. (Some manufacturers sell the touchpad separately from the control panel. Other manufacturers require that you purchase the touchpad and control panel together. If you cannot replace the touchpad individually, replace the touchpad and control panel.)

12 – Jenn Air Dishwasher Control Panel

Jenn-Air Dishwasher buttons not working

Jenn-Air Dishwasher Major Issues

Jenn-Air Dishwasher buttons not working

Before trying to come up with solutions, we first need to figure out why your dishwasher buttons are not working.

There are numerous reasons why you’re having issues. A few common examples include:

#1 The Dishwasher Is Not Plugged In

If you find that your dishwasher buttons are not working, the dishwasher might not be plugged in. Please look at the dishwasher and ensure it is hooked up to an electrical outlet that is working.

If you keep plugging in the dishwasher, but it is not turning on, you’ll want to look at the circuit breaker. Make sure the switch is in the right position. Even if it looks like it is, it could be worth switching it off and on again. It can sometimes be flipped but still stuck in the ‘ON’ position.

Once you’ve placed everything in the right position, your dishwasher’s buttons should be working. If not, you might also need to ensure the dishwasher is connected to a water supply; otherwise, it still may not turn on.

#2 There Is a Lot of Dirt Built Up

One of the most common reasons that could explain why your dishwasher’s buttons are not working is the buildup of dirt, grease, and oil on them and the control interface. Particularly if you have a dishwasher with a top control panel, it is common for these buttons to get stuck.

If your dishwasher start button is not working or any other button is giving you problems, you’ll want to clean them. Remember to use appropriate protection if you are using a harsh chemical cleaner.

#3 There Is an Electrical Wiring Problem

These days, the vast majority of buttons on a dishwasher work by using electrical systems. If there is a problem with the wiring, it could cause the button to malfunction.

With wiring, the easiest and safest way to troubleshoot dishwasher problems is to contact an electrician who can help you. I do not recommend messing with the wiring since, unless you know exactly what you’re doing, you’ll be putting yourself in harm’s way.

Not to mention that you could also void your dishwasher’s warranty.

#4 The Child Lock Is On

Yet another reason why your dishwasher’s buttons might not be working is that the child lock is engaged.

If the child lock is engaged on your system, the other buttons won’t work, so you’ll need to disengage the child lock to get everything back up and running.

The exact method for disengaging the child lock varies depending on the dishwasher you have. In general, you have to hold down a specific button for a few seconds to release the child lock. Then, the rest of the buttons should work properly.

#5 There Is a Problem with the Trap and Filter Assembly System

Finally, there could also be an issue with the trap and filter assembly system. If the Trap inside the bottom of the dishwasher is clogged with debris, then the water pump may stop functioning. If the water pump is not working properly, the rest of the dishwasher’s buttons may also stop working.

You’ll have to clean the trap and filter system to get your dishwasher buttons working again. Please read the next section to learn how to do it.

Jenn-Air Dishwasher not draining

Jenn-Air Dishwasher Major Issues

Jenn-Air Dishwasher not draining

Clogged Sump Filters

There is usually a course and fine filter. If they are clogged, you will get low water flow and poor washability. To clean filters, remove them and wash with soap, warm water, and brush. If the filters cannot be cleaned effectively or if they are damaged, they will need to be replaced.

Jenn Air Dishwasher Drain Pump

The drain pump uses an impeller to force water through the drain hose. If the drain pump motor is not working, the dishwasher won’t drain. To determine if the drain pump is defective, check the pump motor for continuity using a multimeter. If the motor does not have continuity, or if is getting power but won’t run, replace the drain pump. Drain pumps are not repairable—if the drain pump is defective, you must replace it.

Jenn Air Dishwasher Control Board

A dishwasher’s control board provides power to nearly every electrical component in the dishwasher. A faulty board may be unable to supply power to the drain pump, preventing it from drawing the water out of the tank and forcing it through the drain hose to the garbage disposal or sink drain pipe.

Jenn Air Dishwasher Drain Impeller

The drain impeller pushes water through the drain hose and into the garbage disposer or drain line. If the impeller is broken, replace it.

Jenn Air Dishwasher Drain Solenoid Kit

The drain solenoid opens the drain valve to allow the water to exit the dishwasher. If the drain solenoid fails the valve will not open causing the dishwasher not to drain.

Jenn Air Dishwasher Drain Valve

Over time, the drain valve can get clogged with debris. To ensure that water can flow through the drain valve, clean out the valve. If the drain valve is clear of debris but it still won’t actuate, replace it. Drain valves are not repairable—if the drain valve is defective, you must replace it.

Jenn Air Dishwasher Main Control Board

A dishwasher’s main control board provides power to nearly every electrical component in the dishwasher. A faulty board may be unable to supply power to the drain pump, preventing it from drawing the water out of the tank and forcing it through the drain hose to the garbage disposal or sink drain pipe.

Jenn Air Dishwasher Pump and Motor Assembly

The motor drives an impeller to force water out of the drain hose. If the motor runs during the drain cycle, check for a blockage in the drain line. If the motor won’t run during the drain cycle or if it just hums when it should be running, the pump and motor assembly might need to be replaced.

Clogged or Improperly Installed Garbage Disposer

If the garbage disposer was installed recently, the drain plug may not have been removed. All garbage disposers are sold with a solid plug in the drain tube. If the dishwasher is not connected to the garbage disposer, the plug must remain in the drain tube. However, if the dishwasher is connected to the garbage disposer, the plug must be removed. If the garbage disposer wasn’t replaced recently, it is possible that the disposer is clogged. Remove the dishwasher drain hose from the disposer and clean out both the fitting on the disposer and the end of the drain hose. These are the most common places to find an obstruction if the dishwasher won’t drain.

Jenn Air Dishwasher Drain Hose

The drain hose might be clogged. To unclog the drain hose, remove the drain hose from both the dishwasher and the sink drain and clean it out. The drain hose is most commonly clogged near the garbage disposer or dishwasher drain branch tailpiece.

Jenn Air Dishwasher Check Valve

The check valve prevents water from returning to the dishwasher after it has drained. If the valve gets stuck closed, it will prevent the water from draining. If the check valve is stuck closed, try cleaning it out and then replace it if necessary.

Jenn Air Dishwasher Check Ball

The check ball is a small plastic ball in the check valve that prevents water from returning to the dishwasher after the dishwasher has drained. If the check ball gets stuck, it will prevent water from draining through the check valve. If the check ball is stuck, try to free it.

Jenn Air Dishwasher Filter Assembly

A dishwasher’s filter assembly usually consists of both a course and a fine filter located in the sump. If one or both of these filters is clogged, the appliance will probably not drain properly. If the filters cannot be cleaned effectively or if they are damaged, they will need to be replaced.

Jenn Air Dishwasher Screen Filter

A dishwasher will usually have both a course and a fine screen filter located in the sump. If one or both of these filters is clogged, the appliance will probably not drain properly. If the filters cannot be cleaned effectively or if they are damaged, they will need to be replaced.

Jenn Air Dishwasher Strainer

Dishwashers will use a strainer located in the sump to catch food particles. If the strainer is clogged, the appliance will probably not drain properly. If the stainer cannot be cleaned effectively or is damaged, it will need to be replaced.

Jenn-Air Dishwasher Major Issues

Jenn-Air Dishwasher not cleaning

A dishwasher that’s not cleaning your dishes properly not only creates a lot of extra work, it can increase your water bill too! Doing dishes, pots, pans, and silverware by hand is both inconvenient and costly.

If your dishwasher is not working properly there are several possible causes for an ineffective dishwasher, including a dirty filter, a clogged spray arm, or a broken soap dispenser. To help you get your dishwasher cleaned effectively again, the experts at Mr. Appliance have put together this guide to help you pinpoint and resolve the problem.

Troubleshooting Tips for a Dishwasher That’s Not Cleaning Well

When your dishwasher is not getting dishes clean, cleaning the machine may fix the issue. After that, regular maintenance should keep your unit running efficiently. However, dirty components are not always the root of the problem. Here are some likely reasons that your dishwasher isn’t cleaning dishes well:

Dirty Interior

Things accumulate on the inside of your dishwasher: grease, bits of food, mineral deposits from hard water, soap scum, and more. Cleaning the interior of your dishwasher is a good first step when the dishwasher isn’t cleaning dishes well. If buildup is minor, try running a vinegar cycle: Pour 3 cups of white vinegar into the bottom of the unit, and run through a full cycle.

Dirty Filter

Dishwashers made before 2010 most likely have a self-cleaning filter that operates by grinding down food particles until they are small enough to wash away. Newer, quieter models typically have a removable filter that needs to be taken out and cleaned periodically. The filter is below the bottom rack, usually secured with a twist-off cap. To clean the filter, remove it from the machine (using the owner’s manual instructions) and rinse it thoroughly under hot water. If there’s a stuck-on gunk, soak it in hot, soapy water for several minutes and gently clean it with a soft brush before rinsing.

Clogged Spray Arm

Spray arms spin around below and/or above the dishwasher racks and shoot water to wash the dishes. The jets (tiny holes) in spray arms can get clogged, which reduces water pressure and their effectiveness. Cleaning the spray arms should help improve the cleaning process. Depending on your model, the arm may come off easily for cleaning, or you might need to remove a screw to take it out. Scrub it with a soft brush and dish soap, use a toothpick or bristled stick to dislodge particles and clear clogs in the holes, and then rinse it well under hot water.

Broken Soap Dispenser

If your soap dispenser isn’t working properly, detergent may not be reaching your dishes, or it may not be released at the right time during the wash cycle. A common issue is a jammed spring in the dispenser door. Try using a small brush to clean the soap dispenser and springs. A mixture of hot water and vinegar will help dissolve grease and debris. If the spring or the dispenser door is broken, it needs to be replaced. Finally, check the gasket around the dispenser, and replace it if it’s cracked. Rubbing a small dab of petroleum jelly around the gasket occasionally can extend its life.

Low Water Temperature

Most dishwasher cycles require a water temperature of at least 120 degrees Fahrenheit to work properly. Some models have a heat-boosting mechanism built in, but if yours doesn’t, make sure that your water heater is set to 120 degrees. (Be careful! Setting the temperature any higher than 120 degrees creates a risk of scalding.) Finally, you can run the kitchen faucet for 30 to 60 seconds before starting the dishwasher to ensure that hot water enters the machine at the start.

Detergent and Related Issues

Low-quality or improper detergent can lead to spotty dishes. Using too much detergent can also cause problems. Be sure to use the right type of detergent and the appropriate amount. A final rinse agent should improve results, too. If you have hard water, consider installing a water softener to minimize mineral deposit damage. Lastly, be sure to load the dishwasher correctly.

Water Volume or Pressure Issues

Water pressure problems are likely to affect appliances like dishwashers and washing machines. If you’ve noticed that water pressure in your faucets has been lower than normal, or if the pressure seems to be fluctuating, you may need professional help to address the issue.

Failing Inlet Valve

The inlet valve allows water to flow into the dishwasher. If you’ve recently noticed a hammering sound coming from the unit as it runs, a faulty inlet valve is the likely culprit. Check your owner’s manual for dishwasher parts and replacement information.
