Dacor Oven not heating up
A Dacor oven signifies reliability and high performance but it can still fall victim to common issues, like not heating properly. Why won’t my Dacor oven heat up? The thermostat may need to be recalibrated to more accurately reflect the set temperature. Determine the most likely causes for a Dacor oven not heating and how to solve the problem.
Troubleshooting a Dacor Oven Not Heating
A Dacor oven not heating properly could be due to one of several potential causes, from power problems to part malfunctions. Our list of the 5 most common reasons streamlines Dacor oven troubleshooting and pinpoints the solution.
1. Oven Isn’t Getting Power
Sometimes power issues are responsible for a Dacor oven not heating up. Even gas ovens require electricity to power certain functions.
Here’s how to determine if your oven isn’t getting power:
- Make sure the oven is plugged in to a working outlet: If there are no working oven functions, the outlet requires multimeter testing.
- Confirm outlet voltage: While gas ovens require a standard 120V outlet, electric ovens need an outlet that provides 240 volts of alternating current.
- Check for tripped breakers: If the oven’s circuit breaker has tripped it must be repositioned to restore power to the oven.
2. Oven Thermostat Requires Calibration
Make sure you allow the oven enough time to fully preheat so the desired temperature is reached before you begin cooking. Failure to preheat the oven can result in longer cooking times or uneven baking.
Even after fully preheating, the oven’s heat can fluctuate during cooking. The oven thermostat works with a Dacor oven temperature sensor to maintain heat at the preheated temperature. In some instances, the thermostat may need to be recalibrated to improve its accuracy, better reflecting the set temperature.
An easy way to test your oven thermostat is to bake a batch of regular biscuits. Follow the instructions on the package closely and take inspect the results. If the biscuits aren’t cooked evenly or if they come out undercooked, you may need to recalibrate the thermostat.
Consult your user manual to determine the right calibration process for your model oven. In most cases, the thermostat can be recalibrated up to 35℉ for better accuracy.
3. Defective Oven Bake Element
In electric ovens, the bake element provides the majority of heat for cooking. Located at the bottom of the oven, the coil contains wires that receive electrical current once a temperature is set. As the wires receive this current, they heat the metal coil to cook food. When the bake element is working properly, it should have an uninterrupted red glow and consistent heat.
Damage to the bake element can result in a Dacor oven heating slowly or not at all. In some instances, an oven’s self-cleaning function can damage the bake element.
The following signs indicate a defective bake element:
- Blistering
- Breaks or cracks
- Inconsistent red glow
A defective bake element can’t be repaired and requires replacement.
4. Oven Igniter Not Working
A failed igniter is often responsible for a gas-powered Dacor oven not heating. The igniter uses electricity to open the valve that allows gas to flow. It then produces an electrical spark to light the gas.
Over time, the igniter can become too weak to either open the valve or light the gas. To determine if this is the case, observe the igniter after turning on the oven. If it doesn’t spark or takes more than 90 seconds to light the gas, it needs replacement.
5. Convection Fan Motor Failure
A convection vs regular oven uses a fan to circulate the oven’s hot air. This creates faster, more even cooking and deeper browning. However, if the motor that powers the fan fails, the fan won’t operate and air won’t circulate. When this happens, food may take longer to cook or may cook unevenly.
When assessing the fan, first make sure the blades aren’t obstructed and can rotate freely. If there are no obstructions, test the motor for continuity with a multimeter. A lack of continuity means the motor has failed and must be replaced.
